Short Film Score - ‘Marlon’
For this project, I composed an original score for the short film - Marlon.
I created music for around 4 scenes, all of which revolve around a re-occurring motif / chord pattern, with each scene exploring the motif within a different narrative / musical context.
Marlon mostly focuses on one character, who finds himself slipping into an increasingly unstable psychological state, caught in a cycle of chaotic rumination. The film plays with the idea of melancholy and hope, and the place in which these two feelings collide.
I chose to reflect this musically, creating a range of somewhat emotionally ambiguous pieces, each of which exploring the bittersweet blend of these two contrasting yet complimentary emotional qualities.
By using a range of production and compositional techniques, I created a dynamic score which responds closely to the on-screen cues. I then brough these ideas to life by employing a range of creative production and mixing techniques.
