‘1800 Gallons’ Hero Ad
For this project I worked as the sole composer and sound designer, creating a bespoke soundscape to underpin a showcase of the brands’ various designs.
'“1800 Gallons is a new fashion label seeking to create a more cyclical approach to design through the use of repurposed and deadstock textiles. The 1800 philosophy falls in line with a slow approach; garments are built to last and transform with time.”

With this ethos in mind, I composed an organic, slow arrangement to echo the brand’s cyclical, eco-conscious approach. I felt it was important to incorporate a sense of the brand’s hands-on, artisanal manufacturing process, so during the early stages of production we decided to capture some of our own field recordings which could later be weaved into the music as an extra personal touch. We recorded various interesting sounds and textures from around the workshop, for instance: sewing machines, machinery, scissors, etc.
I then layered these field recordings into the musical arrangement, using them both as SFX elements to support the on-screen effects and transitions, and as more abstract musical / textural elements. The goal here was to create a blend between orchestral and abstract, relying more on detailed drones and textures than overly melodic ideas.
