BA Research Project | Dissertation + Physical Artefact (EP) - Artificial intelligence & music production
This was a practice-led research project which consisted of a two-pronged approach: offering both a practical element (an EP) which explores the area first-hand, and a dissertation, which analyses the surrounding context and deals with many of the nuanced societal, philosophical, and ethical considerations within the field.
These two prongs meet to construct a project that explores the creative relationship between humans and AI in the context of music production, while looking specifically at the role of AI as a compositional tool and how it may begin to function as a type of ‘creative-partner’.
The project also considers AI’s other possible applications in areas such as sound design, composition, and even live-improvisation - ultimately looking at how AI can contribute to the musical creative process, and what implications it may have on the role of producer.
During the production of the EP, I drew from a range of AI tools to generate, code, and modify musical source material. I then gathered, processed, and manipulated the material, using it as part of my general workflow.
